INTERESTED IN JOINING OUR TEAM?

Our team is composed of highly skilled members with unique capabilities. Our President is a SARTECH II with a variety of FEMA certifications. We have 3 members with active Army experience and relevant skill sets ranging from survival to training to operations to flying expertise. Four separate members have Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DLAM) certification.  This advanced training is significant because it helps us recognize the earliest symptoms of dogs’ stress (such as yawning), which ensures the safety of our teams. Our dogs are NOT equipment; they do NOT spend their lives in crates or pens. ASDA dogs are cherished working partners and family members.  This is in stark contrast to the utilitarian function they fill for many teams.

We are always looking for selfless people to join our team. Owning a dog is not a requirement for membership. Team members with varied and specialized skills can play important roles in search-and-rescue. Contact us to get started.

NOTE: If you have a dog, or are considering getting a puppy for this type of work, keep in mind that working/sporting breeds tend to have a genetic predisposition for this type of training. Some examples are: Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, and Border Collies. It is very helpful to test all of the puppies in a prospective litter using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test.
Search and rescue requires the following:
  • A serious long-term commitment
  • Minimum of 5-7 hrs per week of training
  • 100% support from your family is vital
  • Monetary sacrifices  since search and rescue work can be very expensive
  • Personal safety as top priority.  You may find yourself in dangerous/risky situations.
  • A positive attitude, confidence in your abilities, self-reliance and being able to evaluate your capabilities is a must.
  • Willingness to drive several hours to a search
  • Capable of dealing with locating deceased subjects
  • Excellent health and physical conditioning
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism
  • A high comfort level in the outdoors, including at night
